If you change a recipe on your phone, it automatically shows up on your laptop. And since it’s running off a server, all of those devices have access to the same information at the same time. Once you’ve created an account, your login credentials work in all of those environments to seamlessly give you access. You have the exact same interface and full toolset whether you’re running it on a laptop, a tablet, or a smartphone. You access it through a web browser interface, but it’s much fancier than that. So there’s nothing to install or configure. The Basicsīrewfather isn’t a software that you load on your computer, the software exists on Brewfather’s servers. I felt like I had so much time invested in BeerSmith, and I didn’t want to have to go through re-learning everything again in a new software. Although there are limitations or some awkward features, it works and I know how to use it. If beersmith wants to publish their format as a new specification, I would be willing to consider it. It enables one player (beersmith) to decide what is and what isn't appropriate for homebrewing software. Reverse engineering a closed source format is wrong. I wish I could be open minded here, but I find I cannot. If beersmith no longer supports BeerXML, that is beersmith's bug and not one we should have to fix. We should no more have to understand beersmith's proprietary format than beersmith should have to understand our database schema. The entire point of BeerXML is to allow different software to exchange these profiles without having to understand each other's formats. Although I would help with Python or another script to convert bsmx to brewtarget standard!! PS: I would help it here but I'm not fluent in C/C++ to propose a branch with this data importing feature. Anyway, the cornerstone of this idea would be first having a way to import any standardized profile into Brewtarget database. Therefore, the job of converting bsmx to this suggested open standard would be part of brewtarget itself, or not! (it would be part of another project). And possibly having a utility like this would popularize Brewtarget even more, because it makes easier to create a recipe with real items instead of making many substitutions.Ī blind shot, if I can suggest it, would be to adopt an open standard for this type of customization in Brewtarget (or maybe even create an open standard if it doesn't exist, since we use open source here!). But this feature is one of the best features of beersmith, wich is the "market" standard, and many vendors use it to export equipments and ingredients profiles to that "standard" software, what makes it more and more popular.
